Always Creating

The first way we introduce young children to God is by telling them “God made the world and God made you.”  We discover who God is by what He does.  Meeting God as our Creator is how the Biblical story begins.  The first verse in the Bible found in Genesis 1:1 reveals the nature of God with the words “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

In the Biblical narrative, we initially meet God as Creator, but as we explore more deeply, reading book after book, we see that God never stops creating.  Creativity is part of who He is—creating is an intrinsic part of God’s nature.

If you were to hold a soft back copy of The Bible in your hands, especially one with a flexible spine, you could open it up so broadly that the front and back covers meet each other, to form a full circle of text.  I love this visual because God’s story is continuous and consistent—from beginning to end.  We see the hand of God reaching into humanity, using His creativity to impact lives.

In the very last book of the Bible, in Revelation 21:5, the Disciple John paints a picture in his magnificent vision of the end of the world.  Christ is sitting on the throne of the new heaven and the new earth, and He proclaims, “Behold, I make all things new.”

A complete circle — God makes all things new in the beginning, and in the end.  As we now live in the middle of these two bookends of time, God continues to work in our lives, creating new attitudes, imbued spirits and newness of life.  He takes situations of heartache and brings peace.  Out of confusion, He brings clarity and understanding.

When it feels like all hope is gone, God paints a new picture for us—one of strength and confidence.  He gives us a reason to wake up every day.  He creates a bright future; one we can anticipate with joy and in which we can secure our heart’s greatest expectations.
